Welcome to Linda Shaw Photography!
A little about me.....
Born and raised in Alberta, my introduction to photography was through my first boyfriend, a self-taught photographer, who went on to make a living with his own studio. He always had his camera with him everywhere he went and so I got to watch him in action. Frequently I found myself peering over his shoulder in the darkroom, watching as the black and white images came to life. This was a magical experience that made a lasting impression on me. A few years later, with a camera he lent me, I took off travelling across Canada. By the time I returned home, I'd fallen in love with art of photography and bought my first camera. It's been my passion ever since.
I make my home in Kelowna, British Columbia, but I travel back to my home town in Alberta whenever I get the opportunity. There, in the province I spent the first 20 years of my life, I find myself in awe of the beauty that makes up the prairie landscape, something I once took for granted. Whether it be a decaying old car in a field, an abandoned old homestead or wildflowers, I feel inspired and attempt to capture that feeling in my photographs.
My mentor taught me a lesson I've never forgotten. He said, "Just look around you and you will start to see 'God's little miracles' everywhere." Those words forever changed the way I see the world through my lense. I began to notice all the everyday little miracles we often overlook, as we rush through our busy lives.
Several years ago, I lost the vision in my right eye, due to a tumor. This experience gave me a heightened sense of 'vision' and of all the beauty in our world we so often take for granted. Faced with the possibility of losing the vision in my good eye, I began to see things differently and in a more pronounced way. The blessing that resulted was that it gave me a greater appreciation for all the beauty that surrounds us. I made a promise that if I could retain what vision I had, I would use my gift to photograph "God's little miracles.” Suffice it to say, I got my wish. My intention is to allow others to experience the joy, inspiration and connection to spirit I feel when capturing these images. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them.
